WAYEYI BIBLE TRANSLATION
The WBTP (Wayeyi Bible Translation Project) is a collaborative initiative by the Bible Society of Botswana and the community of Wayeyi, aiming to translate the New Testament into the Wayeyi language.
(WBTP) began 2010 through collaboration between the Bible Society of Botswana and the Wayeyi community.
After training, translators started work in 2013 with the Jesus Film Script and continued by drafting the gospels in 2014. The New Testament drafting concluded in 2019, awaiting team checks, community reviews, consultant checks, and publishing. In 2017, the booklet “Ni Totuzane Sha Mayi Nganii” was published. The gospels of Mark and Matthew were launched in 2021 and 2022 respectively. The plan is to launch the New Testament in the year 2025.
Books including Titus, Philemon, 1-3 John, and Jude await stage 4, while Acts and Corinthians will undergo team checks this year. Current year’s plans involve community engagement with the books of John and Acts, a literacy workshop, and completing team checks for Acts, 1 Corinthians, and 2 Corinthians.
The plans for this year are as follows:
To take the book of John and Acts to the community. To run a literacy workshop.
To finish team checking the book of Acts, 1 Corinthians, and 2 Corinthians
